January and February 2018 Report

This time I have made an exception and I am delivering both january and february 2018 in the same report. I basically started monitoring my life with more precision in january 2017. There is no way of doing real conclusions about how things are really working, yet. I have some goals for arranging my life and I am still far away from optimal. All the monthly reports are basically divided into two parts, mental and physical efforts and results.

I had some troubles, especially in February. I was sick for a week and most of my physical efforts were in the hold. All in all, I was less active with my physical effort in february. January was actually a pretty good month concerning on the physical effort.

Mental efforts and results in february and january

Most of my mental efforts go to using a laptop, watching TV and reading real books. For monitoring laptop usage, I have RescueTime program which shows how much time I use for using OpenOffice, reading Kindle books and flying through different websites, emails, etc. I do not measure my time watching TV, at least not yet. But I am timing how much I read physical non-fiction books. Here are some results of using laptop and reading physical books february (january)

  • Time I used my laptop/day on average: 286 (285) minutes/day
  • The efficiency on average with laptop 64% (59%) 183 min (168min)
  • Using OpenOffice/day 71 (65) min/day on average
  • Using Ebooks 60 (59) min/day on average
  • Refereeing portals on 7 (12min)/day on average
  • Online newspapers 6 min (10min/day) on average
  • keskustelu.kauppalehti.fi (Finnish financial news portal) 14 min (14 min/day) on avg
  • skysports.com 7 min (10 min)/day on average
  • Others: about 117 (105 min)/day on average
  • Reading physical books about 78min (92 min/day) on average

We can see that mental efforts TV excluded took a lot of my time, basically now it was more than 6 hours/day. I used my laptop almost 5h/day. The efficiency was 64% in february. It was clearly better than my 59% in january. Normal efficiency should be around 60% on average. It seems to me I have improved, but I am not sure if my new laptop has something do with it. I have a different browser in use now. This can explain something, because the RescueTime algorithm can see things differently. In february I read non-fiction about 78 minutes/day. And I read Ebooks about 60 min on average. In january the numbers were 90 and 59 minutes. I was sick for a week in February. That had an effect on how many normal books I could read. I didn´t have any books for some days.

Physical efforts

My division for physical efforts are sleeping, eating, drinking, walking and exercising. I did not sleep that well in November and it continued in December. I cannot really think any obvious reasons. I have no data to prove it. I have too much weight. I measured it in 28th and it was 100kg, which is the same weight than in the end of february. I am aiming weight under 100kg before summer. It may not happen, but close to it is better than nothing. I am very close, but also in the crossroads. I have had a week of not having enough exercice and I have to get back to the rhytm. Everything went pretty well, until I got a flu. I haven´t lost any weight for couple months and I hope I will not get back to my old habits.

My nutrition is still not good enough. I could eat better. The amount of crap has diminished a bit. I ate crap only in four days in february and january. I am not good in eating vegetables. My preferred food is whole wheat pasta and chicken. That is my main dish. I eat it almost every day. Most often my second dish for the day is this same whole wheat pasta with either red meat or fish. I havent been drinking any alcohol since the end of august. I am trying to have a whole alcohol free year. It is a challenge. I have sometimes been without alcohol for two or three months. I have managed to survive without it, at least for now. I am pretty confident I can manage a year without alcohol. I haven´t still decided what to do after the year. I may start drinking again, but very seldom. I am not sure yet. I will see what happens in august.

Exercising can be divided into two things: refereeing and walking. Refereeing should be my preferred way, but I am trying to have a short walk every day, if I have only one game. If I have more in one day, I may not go for a walk. February was a good month, until I got a flu. On average, I was on the move for 65 minutes per day. 90 minutes is my long-term goal. I was getting a little more than 80 minutes of exercise. Exercise was refereeing for two thirds of the time and walking one third of the time. In january I had about 76 minutes of exercise per day. It was divided between refereeing and walking about half and half.

I have some trouble in motivating myself to write this blog. I hope all the readers have patience to wait for these reviews.

Have a good month!
